THINKFIRST!
With vehicle accidents being the leading cause of traumatic and life altering injuries, we are THANKFUL to welcome BOTH the OSF HealthCare Illinois Neurological Institute THINKFIRST for TEENS program, and MR. TONY HOFMANN into our DE Classroom to speak on the seriousness of brain and spinal cord injury prevention!
MR. HOFMANN shares his story with students of how he went through a traumatic brain injury at 19 which resulted from a fatal vehicle accident while in high school at Normal West. MR. HOFMANN discusses what he went through in the days and years following the accident, and hopes by sharing his story to 1st time drivers, that nobody else will have to live his nightmare. |
DHS Parent's Association
The DHS DE Program CANNOT thank the Parent's Association enough for the help and support they have provided students in further developing their driving knowledge, skills, and decision-making!
Pedal cars (2), impairment driving goggles (6), and other essential classroom materials, are just the beginning of a long list of valuable resources these individuals have generously provided DHS students since 2016! THANK YOU! |

DRIVE IT HOME - APP
The NHSC's newest offer to teen driver's and their parents is the DriveitHOME app.
This free phone app helps students (1) log their practice hours to stay on track with state of Illinois GDL requirements, (2) provide ideas and tips for weekly driving lessons, and (3) even includes helpful instructional videos to keep our student's gaining the needed opportunities and experiences they need to become safe, smart, and responsible drivers. |
drunk busters of America!
DBA is one-of-a-kind company that DHS DE is proud to partner with! Through our relationship, DHS students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of different activities that help show them the seriousness and consequences associated with choosing to drive under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.)
MADD is a unique opportunity recreated in 2024. The organization focuses on helping families strengthen relationships, and support their children in making responsible decisions when driving. They offer a free virtual workshop, called"Power of Parents," designed to empower parents and caregivers to have important conversations about underage alcohol use, recognize signs of substance abuse, and provide resources to help their children make safer, smarter choices. Attached is a flyer with all the workshop details, including the date, time, and meeting link.
